Dr. Waqar Waheed, MD, FRCPC, DABPN

Dr. Waheed is currently accepting referrals for both forensic (civil & criminal matters - children, adolescents and adults) and clinical (children, adolescent and adult) assessment/consultation

Dr. Waheed has been the clinical medical director of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Inpatient Mental Health Unit since the hospital opened in 2006. He is a consultant psychiatrist to the Calgary Young Offenders Centre and the Forensic Adolescent Program. He is an Independent Medical Examiner for the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) of Alberta.

He has trained in General Psychiatry (Vanderbilt University), Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (Johns Hopkins Hospital), Forensic Psychiatry (New York Medical College) and Addiction Medicine (through New York University and the American Society of Addiction Medicine). He is board certified in Psychosomatic Medicine (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology) and Neuropsychiatry (United Council of Neurological Subspecialties).

Dr. Waheed is the former and founding training program director for subspecialty training in the RCPSC (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada) Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry programs at the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine. He is an Associate Professor (Clinical) in the Cumming School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Waheed has been published in scientific journals and textbooks including the American Journal of Psychiatry, ​Canadian Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, The International Handbook on Psychopathic Disorders and the Law, Encyclopedia of Forensic and Legal Medicine, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry and American Society of Adolescent Psychiatry Newsletter. Dr. Seema Hussain, MD, FRCPC, DABPN

Dr. Hussain received her medical degree from he University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon) and completed residency training in Psychiatry at the University of Calgary. Dr. Hussain is a Clinical Assistant Professor with joint appointments in the Departments of Psychiatry and Oncology at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary.

Dr. Hussain is a specialist in Psychiatry and sub-specialist in Geriatric Psychiatry as recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the specialty of Psychiatry with added qualifications in the sub-specialty areas of Psychosomatic Medicine and Hospice/Palliative Care. specialist in Addiction Medicine certified through the American Board of Addiction Medicine and is also a specialist in Neuropsychiatry/Behavioral Neurology certified through the United Council of Neurological Subspecialties.

 

Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

Dr. Yuserly Rosas, MD, FRCPC

Dr. Rosas is currently accepting referrals for clinical assessment/consultation of children and adolescents.

Dr. Yuserly Rosas earned her medical degree at University of Zulia; subsequently she completed her rural practice as a general practitioner, and worked towards a diploma in Health Services Management, all in her native Venezuela. After moving to Canada in 2005 she trained in general psychiatry at the University of Alberta. She then completed the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons subspecialty program in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Calgary. Dr. Rosas has valued every moment of her training in this program as a way to acquire well-rounded research and clinical expertise. Upon finishing her subspecialty training she was offered the opportunity to provide psychiatric services (inpatient and outpatient) at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and Foothills Hospital which she has maintained. She is committed to participating in the delivery of  medical education in her role as a Clinical Lecturer with the Department of Psychiatry of the Cumming School of Medicine (University of Calgary), training medical students and residents (in both the child and adolescent psychiatry subspecialty program and paediatrics).

Linda Pearson, M.Sc.

Linda Pearson is a Registered Psychologist who specializes in clinical assessment with children and adolescents as well as expertise with adults. Linda has been practicing in the area of mental health for some 20 years, and has a Master’s of Counselling degree in Psychology. Linda has had experience from a variety of settings including campus-based mental health programs, inpatient mental health units, specialized school placements, walk-in counselling services, and home-based therapy. Specific areas of specialization and interest include psychoeducational assessment and the identification of Specific Learning Disability, Intellectual Disability and Intellectual Giftedness, assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and assessment of the impact of trauma on psychosocial functioning inclusive of attachment patterns, internalizing and externalizing behavioural disorders, and the development of maladaptive interpersonal styles.

In addition to her work at Sky Psychiatry, Linda currently works in the public sector conducting clinical assessment in an acute inpatient setting as well as providing group therapy to children and adolescents with complex mental health concerns.

Nevena Kalajdzic,

Nevena Kalajdzic is a Registered Provisional Psychologist who completed her Master of Counselling degree at the University of Lethbridge. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of British Columbia in 2014. Over the past 10+ years, Nevena has worked in various roles supporting children, youth, and families within campus-based and community mental health programs, outreach/in-home support, and in school settings. This has included working with people who were experiencing complex mental health concerns, socio-emotional and behavioural challenges, interpersonal issues, and trauma.  

Nevena’s approach to therapy involves supporting clients with exploration, discovery, and change in a way that aligns with their unique needs and goals. She draws from a variety of theoretical approaches, including Collaborative Problem-Solving Skills Training (CPS-ST), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Parent Management Training (PMT), Skills-based training for emotional dysregualtion, Family Systems and relational approaches, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. Nevena aims to be a culturally sensitive practitioner who considers her clients’ strengths and seeks to collaborate in finding the right tools and solutions to move towards healing, growth, and sustainable change.
